Sicilian is a language spoken in Sicily, an island region of Italy, as well as in smaller regions around. Even though it is often confused with Standard Italian, Sicilian is considered a separate language, which is also officially recognised as a minority language by UNESCO.
Even though it does not have an official status, the language is currently spoken by around 5 million people. More and more people are interested to the language, as it allows learners to get to know better the culture of Sicily and connect with the locals.
